Welcome to the consultation website for 13 Coventry Street,

part of the iconic Trocadero complex.

Our vision for the site is to create a high-quality venue, bringing a vacant space back into use, attracting domestic and overseas tourists, supporting the local economy, creating jobs and contributing to the wider regeneration of the iconic Trocadero.

As part of our commitment to early community engagement, we are keen to hear your feedback to help shape the development of our plans ahead of submitting a planning application to Westminster City Council. Please read on to find out more about our proposals and discover how to have your say.

About
Genting UK

Genting is an experienced casino operator in the UK. We run 32 venues including three casinos in Westminster and one in Kensington:

The site

Genting has signed an agreement with the Trocadero owner, Criterion Capital, to convert 37,000sq ft of space into a new entertainment and leisure venue which will include a casino, restaurants and bars.

The agreement is subject to Genting securing Planning, Listed Building Consent and Licensing for the proposed uses.
Whilst we are at an early stage with regards to the detailed design we would like to share with you our current proposals for the space.

The Existing Space

The property, which is Grade II Listed and located within the Soho Conservation Area fronts onto Coventry Street and comprises:

The immediate area contains a mix of souvenir shops, candy stores, fast food outlets and generally low-quality retail/food offers which creates a poor impression for visitors.
In particular, the shopfronts and signage are poor quality and of haphazard design providing no unity along the façade of this Listed building.
Working with the building owner Criterion, our proposals will be the first phase of regenerating this part of Coventry Street where we know Criterion want to upgrade the public realm.
The Trocadero was until recently home to a casino which was located on Shaftesbury Avenue (now the Crystal Maze).

Discover the history of Trocadero

The Trocadero complex has been a home for entertainment since the 1800s.

From the 1850s, the Trocadero complex provided multiple facilities for entertainment, culture, music, art, theatrics and leisure and was once regarded as one of the best entertainment centres in London and the main attraction within the West End for tourism. During the 1980s and following the grant of planning permission by the Greater London Council (GLC), a more modern Trocadero complex was created, which became home to facilities such as SegaWorld theme park, Funland and Arcade Area, and Cineworld cinema.

Our proposals represent a continuation of the historic entertainment use of the building, and as part of this we are committed to protecting and enhancing the architectural heritage of the building.

Key Benefits

High-quality

Replacing the low-quality souvenir shops with a modern, contemporary, high quality entertainment venue which complements the allure and vibrancy of the West End.
The venue will be stylish with an attractive look and feel.
The casino will attract both domestic and international visitors.
Bar at Genting's Palm Beach Casino

Sustainability and Heritage

Our proposals pursue a sensitive retrofit-first approach rather than demolition, which is a low-waste, sustainable option for development.
The renovated space will be highly energy efficient, with upgraded energy performance.
Our design proposals, both internal and external, will respect and complement the heritage value of the building and surrounding conservation area. The Townscape Consultancy are working as specialist heritage consultants as part of our project team to help us achieve this.

Investment in the West End

By bringing vacant spaces back into use, our initial proposals represent a multi million pound investment in the West End, creating up to 300 jobs in hospitality and bringing more opportunities to the local area, including training and development programmes for young adults.

Creating local jobs will be a priority for us.

Protecting Neighbouring Amenity

A robust Casino Management Plan will be in place to ensure that the venue is run professionally and considerately at all times. We are experienced operators and have a very strong track record of this.
24/7 CCTV and door staff provide a sense of security not just for our visitors but for our neighbours as well.
